I'm married to a family of singers. Almost all of my in-laws can sing. My Dad in law, and three of four of my wife's siblings. When I was about to meet my wife, a common friend told me I have to learn to sing. No problem. So in the first meet after ten long years (my wife's a college mate), and after about 5 SMLs, I sang. Lai did the singing after...you get the picture. Singing is just not in my veins. My wife Lai then serenaded me so I can say yes to her....hahahaha. Just playin...shhhhh....my wife's not yet into this multiply site.
I've just finish completing our karaoke set-up and Lai lent me a vocalization vcd to hone my skills. What skills??! I said....hahaha...plodding me to at least try.....but seriously, my voice is nosy since birth and I cant follow the words, so can singing be actually learned?
Im still at it. I've been bitten by the K bug for the last week or so....a good hour and half before dinner, I'm belting them out....from Frank Sinatra, the Eagles to Rivermaya and some Cueshe band. And I see our maid shakin her head....
My wife's TIPS on Karaoke singing..I just got to believe her...she was once enrolled in Ryan C's school of music:
1. Find the songs that are just right for you...tempo and pitch wise. Ok...so Martin Nievera belters are out for me.... 2. After finding your songs, a big key is just to read the lyrics clearly..like reading gospel at sunday mass......I laughed...really? seriously? its not suppose to be that simple right? 3. A good mic and mixer can really help----Hahahaha...lack of natural talent can be fixed somewhat by technology!! 4. Practice your songs religiously.....then when in parties...yung ang kantahin nyo!!!
Oh well, after all of those tips....I know I still can't keep par with my wife and do a duet with her......but Its ok. Another reason for me to invite my buddies and drink beer at home.
